Join us for a series of textile and mixed media art exhibitions, workshops, receptions, and a groundbreaking research discussion panel that will, through question-and-answer format, tell the stories of Maria Rodgers Martin and Sarah Elizabeth Taylor Lawton and confront the audience’s preconceived understanding of enslaved persons. The research addresses the complexity of being an enslaved American on the MO/KS border during the civil war and challenges us to ask ourselves “What is freedom? And who is truly free?”
