An award winning fiber artist, Renee Fleuranges-Valdes has enjoyed working with textiles for as long as she can remember. She learned to sew from her mother, making her own clothes by the time she was 12 years old. As a child, Renee quickly learned all types of needlework, including knitting, crochet, embroidery, and needlepoint. But it wasn’t until much later in life that she picked up quilting. After college, Renee took a job at IBM, got married, had children and stopped all needlework. As is most things in life, timing is everything. The mother of a dear friend passed away and Renee ‘inherited’ her quilting stash. Using this as an omen, she took a class at a local quilt shop in 1999 and hasn’t looked back. Renee’s involvement in local quilt guilds, helped propel her past utilitarian quilting and into the world of Fiber Art.

Mrs. Fleuranges-Valdes is known for the bright colored fabric she uses to bring joy and movement to her work. Renee loves the process of creating texture via intricate machine quilting, resulting in a piece that draws the viewer in to get a closer look. Renee also enjoys embellishing her work with crystals, yarns, ribbons and other tidbits to enhance the overall visual impact. Renee’s quilts have been displayed throughout the United States at quilt shows and art galleries. She has won many awards for her work, including, but not limited to, Best Machine Appliqué, Best Innovative Quilt Style, Best Wall Quilt and Viewer’s Choice Award.
