Wells is a self-taught artist whose work is in over one hundred private and public collections. She has exhibited in various galleries, museums and art festivals all over the United States, Italy and British Columbia. Her work has been exhibited at the Milwaukee Art Museum, the John Michael Kohler Art Center, the Wright Museum of Art, the Museum of Wisconsin Art, the Appleton Art Center, The Hurn Museum of Contemporary Folk Art, The Museum of Science, The Coastal Museum and Industry and Charles Allis Museum.

She has been a guest artist at the Kentuck Festival of Arts, the largest art festival which features folk, self-taught and outsider art in the United States. In 2011, First Stage Children’s Theatre commissioned award winning playwright Y York to write a play inspired by her childhood. The play was produced in Milwaukee, Nashville and Charlotte. The play was also chosen to be read at the New Voices/New Visions Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 2010. Her work is sold at various galleries and museums including Intuit Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art in Chicago and the Smithsonian’s Museum of African History and Culture in Washington D.C. In 2017, Wells’ work was included in the exhibition “21 Century Folk Art” at the Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, North Carolina. And in 2018, a solo exhibition of Wells’ work at the Loyola Museum of Art in Chicago, Illinois.
